Theatre's Aesthetic
Our theatre is committed to creating new work, which
can continually reflect the ever-changing topography of our society. Creating
original works gives us more freedom to reflect different modalities of
thought and include performers from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds,
both of which are important to the life of the company.
Our original
works series also allows our company to collaborate with and support other
artists and art organizations. Fly-By Theatre could employ a poet or writer
to help us create the text for the piece or musicians to create an original
score.
History
Fly-By Theatre, Inc. started as an informal group two
years ago in Minneapolis, MN. It consisted of six core members and six
affiliated members. The group produced plays such as The Workroom
by Jean-Claude Grumberg, Wedding on the Eiffel Tower by Jean Cocteau
and The Lesson by Eugene Ionesco. Because the company was still
in its infancy and because several of the founding members are from the
South, the company decided in May 2001 to move to Atlanta. Five of the
original members followed the company in its transition.
Despite the
exterior changes in location and membership, the company has remained
committed, focused and true to its original vision - to train as a group
of performers and to present poetic theatre where the actor's body and
voice have equal measure to the written text.
Our future
seasons will continue to include a variety of styles and texts that reflect
our mission.
