TEST FLIGHTS: 3 NEW SHORT PLAYS
Feb 20 – Mar 8, 2009
Fly-By’s annual new works competition where the audience chooses the winner. Three artistic teams create an original 20 minute play based on this year’s theme: gods, goddesses, prophets. Modern and mythic gods come to life for a brief moment in this dynamic combination of theater and dance. A WORLD OF SILENTS
A culmination of an 8 month collaboration with Duende Dance Theater , this movement rich performance is about the silent film stars and comedians – their lives, their techniques and America in the early 20th century. A collage of people, places, music, silence and laughter this dance theater piece features 3 modern dancers and 3 actors, furthering Fly-By’s commitment to bringing actors and dancers together. THE PAINTING
by Eugène Ionesco
This classic absurd comedy pits a painter, a wealthy gentleman and his one-armed sister in a constantly shifting emotional tug-of-war over a painting, raising questions about the relative value of art and its effect on our relationships. PHOTO

THE MAIDS
by Jean Genet
The Maids is the story of two maids who dream of leaving the shackles of servitude by killing their mistress. The play journeys in and out of the maids’ fantasies until the point of no return. Do they have the courage? Mystery, murder and outcasts making a futile effort to reach the world of acceptance and belonging possess this play. PHOTOS

ORESTES, A MYTH
Long before Hamlet, Orestes struggled with the difficult decision of whether to avenge his father’s murder. Like Hamlet, Orestes suspects his mother in the murder but can he kill Clytemnestra, his own mother? Orestes, A Myth is the continuation of the well known Agamemnon and Iphegenia myths and is a tale of retribution and bloodshed. This poetic retelling of the myth is an original production and weaves stunning images with slightly modern text and a very talented cast.
